French Chess Federation
FFE - France
The Federation Francaise des Echecs (FFE) is France's national chess federation, founded on March 19, 1921. Based in Asnieres-sur-Seine near Paris, the FFE is led by President Eloi Relange and General Director Mathilde Choisy. As a FIDE member federation, it governs all aspects of competitive chess in France, from club management to national championships and international team representation.
France boasts one of Europe's strongest chess cultures, producing world-class players like Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. The FFE supports this tradition through an extensive club network, youth development programs, and tournament infrastructure. In November 2025, the federation launched the "Ecole d'Echecs a la Francaise" initiative to broaden chess education across the country. Since 2025, the FFE has been sponsored by Credit Mutuel, strengthening its financial footing for grassroots and elite programs alike.
With over a century of history, the FFE continues to grow the game in France through competitive events, educational outreach, and digital engagement. The federation maintains an active online presence across social media and streaming platforms, bringing French chess to a global audience.
