Viswanathan Anand, known affectionately as "Vishy," is a five-time World Chess Champion and one of the most beloved figures in chess history. He held the world title from 2007 to 2013 and was FIDE World Champion from 2000 to 2002, making him one of the longest-reigning champions of the modern era.
Born in Chennai, India, Anand is widely credited with igniting the chess revolution in India. His intuitive, speed-based playing style earned him the nickname "The Lightning Kid" early in his career. He is also a two-time World Rapid Champion and a Chess Oscar winner.
