Daniel King is an English chess Grandmaster, author, broadcaster, and one of the most respected chess commentators in the world. Born in 1963, he earned his GM title in 1989 and reached a peak FIDE rating of 2560. He first gained national recognition covering the 1993 Kasparov vs. Short World Championship on Channel 4, and has since become a fixture in chess media.
King runs the PowerPlayChess YouTube channel, which has grown to over 113,000 subscribers with more than 2,700 videos of game analysis, puzzles, and tournament coverage. His Power Play DVD series for ChessBase spans 28 volumes of middlegame strategy and practical instruction. He has authored over 15 chess books, including "Kasparov v Deeper Blue" and "How Good Is Your Chess?"
Since 2010, King has served as a principal commentator and presenter for ChessBase. He has been the lead commentator at the London Chess Classic since 2009 and hosts the monthly Power Play show on Playchess.com.
