New In Chess
podcast & magazine
New In Chess is one of the most respected names in chess publishing, with roots stretching back to 1984 when it launched as an independent magazine in the Netherlands. Over four decades, it has grown into the premier international chess periodical, read by club players in 116 countries. In 2024, after a period under the Play Magnus Group (later acquired by Chess.com), New In Chess was sold to Quality Chess, joining a publishing family that also includes Everyman Chess and Chess Elevation.
The magazine delivers on-site tournament reports, game annotations by top grandmasters, interviews, training material for club players, and exclusive columns by Jan Timman, Matthew Sadler, and James Altucher. Starting in 2026, it publishes six issues per year totaling around 800 pages, under editor-in-chief Remmelt Otten. Beyond the magazine, New In Chess publishes dozens of award-winning chess books and the celebrated Yearbook series covering opening theory.
The New In Chess Podcast, presented by editor-at-large Dirk Jan ten Geuzendam, features conversations with leading players, authors, and chess personalities. Whether you are a club player looking to improve or a serious competitor following top-level events, New In Chess offers some of the deepest and most authoritative chess journalism available anywhere.
