FADA - Federación Argentina de Ajedrez

The Argentine Chess Federation (Federacion Argentina de Ajedrez, or FADA) is the national governing body for chess in Argentina, founded in 1928 and headquartered in Buenos Aires. As a member of FIDE (the World Chess Federation), FADA oversees all official chess activity across the country, from grassroots development to elite-level competition.

Argentina holds a storied place in world chess history. The country became a refuge for European chess masters during the mid-20th century, most notably Miguel Najdorf, who settled in Buenos Aires and gave his name to one of the most popular openings in chess, the Najdorf Variation of the Sicilian Defense. Other Argentine chess legends include Oscar Panno, who won the World Junior Championship in 1953, and the many grandmasters who followed in their footsteps.

FADA organizes the annual Argentine Chess Championship (Campeonato Argentino de Ajedrez), along with national youth championships, team events, and regional tournaments. The federation works closely with provincial chess associations to promote the game at every level, from school programs to senior competitions.

The FADA website serves as a central hub for Argentine chess players, offering tournament calendars, rating information, news about national and international events, and resources for coaches and organizers. Argentina continues to produce competitive players on the international stage, maintaining its reputation as one of the strongest chess nations in South America.
