Tornelo

Tornelo

Free chess tournament management platform for OTB, online, and hybrid events

Tornelo is a free, cloud-based tournament management platform built for chess organizers running events of any size, from small club nights to large national championships. It supports over-the-board, online, and hybrid formats, making it one of the most flexible tools available for modern chess events.

At the core of Tornelo is the official FIDE pairing engine JaVaFo, which delivers the same Swiss pairings as Swiss Manager or Swiss Perfect. Organizers can run Swiss, round-robin, or team events with custom tie-break configurations. Player registration and payment collection are built in, so there is no need for third-party tools to manage sign-ups.

Tornelo's fair play tooling is a standout feature. The platform can flag suspicious games after the first round, giving tournament directors real-time visibility to increase monitoring before issues escalate. This approach has earned endorsements from both the European Chess Union and US Chess. For hybrid events, Tornelo synchronizes data between physical boards and online participants in real time.

For arbiters, the keyboard result input feature (a frequently requested addition) speeds up score entry during live events. Tornelo supports 15+ rating profiles including FIDE, and it is free for organizers with no per-event fees, making it accessible to clubs and federations at every budget level.
