GoChess

AI smart chess board with self-moving pieces

GoChess is a smart physical chess board made by Particula, a Tel Aviv-based hardware company. It comes with self-moving magnetic pieces driven by a patent-pending robotic mechanism under the board. When your opponent makes a move online, the pieces glide across the board on their own, as if someone physically moved them. It is one of the most immersive ways to play online chess while staying at a real board.

The board integrates with both Lichess and Chess.com, so you can play against anyone online without needing an opponent who also owns a GoChess. It also functions as an AI training partner, with color-coded lighting that illuminates squares to show possible moves, highlights threats, and suggests your next move. Voice commands let you call out moves instead of touching the pieces, which is a useful feature for casual study sessions or while multitasking.

GoChess launched on Kickstarter and Indiegogo, where it raised strong backing from the chess and tech communities. The standard board starts at $199.95 from Particula's website. A compact GoChess Mini version is also available for players who want the self-moving piece experience in a smaller footprint.

If you love over-the-board chess but spend a lot of time playing online, GoChess bridges both worlds. It is particularly well suited for families, coaches running hybrid lessons, or anyone who wants the tactile feel of physical pieces without giving up the depth of online platforms.
