African Chess Confederation

Governing body for chess across Africa

The African Chess Confederation (ACC) is the official continental governing body for chess across Africa, representing more than 48 national federations under the FIDE umbrella. Its mission is to develop, promote, and regulate chess throughout the African continent, from grassroots programs to elite competition.

The ACC organizes the African Chess Championships, the continent's highest-profile individual title event, as well as team events, youth championships, and qualification pathways for global FIDE competitions. African chess has produced internationally-ranked grandmasters and a growing pipeline of young talent from countries like Egypt, South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco, and Uganda.

Through partnerships with national federations and FIDE development programs, the ACC works to expand infrastructure, provide training resources, and increase chess participation across the continent. Specific initiatives target schools, youth programs, and underserved communities where chess has strong grassroots momentum.

Africa's chess scene is one of the fastest-growing in the world. The ACC serves as the coordinating force behind that growth, connecting national bodies and giving African players a unified voice on the global stage.
