ChessID

Global chess player identification system by GM Victor Bologan

ChessID is a global player identification platform designed to give every chess player a single, universal identity across all online and offline chess ecosystems. Founded by GM Victor Bologan, FIDE Executive Director and former world No. 18 with a peak rating of 2734, ChessID aims to solve one of the biggest friction points in competitive chess: the fragmentation of player identities across platforms, federations, and tournament systems.

The platform works as a digital chess passport. Players register once and receive a unique ChessID that follows them everywhere, from online games to over-the-board tournaments. The system provides personalized statistics, tailored training recommendations, and tournament registration through a single login. ChessID also integrates a partner marketplace, offering exclusive discounts and services from chess businesses to its community of players.

ChessID partners with established chess technology companies including idChess (for game digitization and broadcasting) and ChessBase (for merchandise and training materials). The platform's roadmap includes AI-powered data analysis, OAuth single sign-on across chess platforms, gamification features, and community forums. A blockchain-based internal currency is also being explored for future phases.

Bologan brings serious credibility to the project. A Moldovan GM who won the 2003 Dortmund Sparkassen ahead of Kramnik, Anand, and Leko, he has served as FIDE Executive Director since 2018 and authored 11 chess books including his autobiography "Making My Move." ChessID reflects his vision for modernizing chess infrastructure at the institutional level, not just the consumer level.
