Arjun Erigaisi is an Indian chess grandmaster born on September 3, 2003, in Warangal, Telangana. He earned the GM title at just 14 years old, making him one of the youngest grandmasters in Indian chess history. By December 2024, Arjun reached a peak classical rating of 2801, becoming only the second Indian player ever to cross the 2800 barrier after Viswanathan Anand, and the fifteenth player in history to achieve this milestone.
Arjun has been one of the most consistent performers on the international circuit. At the 2024 Chess Olympiad in Budapest, he scored an extraordinary 10/11 on Board 1, achieving a 2797 performance rating and helping India clinch the gold medal. His aggressive, tactical style backed by deep opening preparation has made him a feared opponent at the highest level. In September 2024, he became India's top-rated player.
In early 2026, Arjun competed in the Tata Steel Chess Tournament, where he delivered a masterclass in the blitz event, defeating both Viswanathan Anand and Wei Yi with exceptional clock management and preparation. Currently ranked around world no. 11 with a classical rating near 2763, he remains one of the strongest players in the world and a leading figure in India's golden generation of chess talent.
